I’ve been sitting here thinking about why I do not have any luck with any beginnings of a social media campaign. It’s not the quality; I’ve been overwhelmed by social media for a long time. But now, I think I might know why: It’s the QUANTITY.

You may remember these books I lambasted a while back about Blogging for Morons, or a book by a very highly thought of news site and their complete book o’ blogging, or how to blog like a pro, or how to not appear like a complete moron? I have a few of these, and one of the main things they talk about is finding these places where your “niche” is being talked about, and engage them. I don’t have a niche other than podcasting, really. Additionally, my podcast is about more than one subject. It’s soup to nuts. It’s shtick, it’s tech, it’s infotainment. It’s 20 pounds of crazy in a 10 pound bag. I’m supposed to do WHAT with this?

Go preach to the sinners, they all say. OK.

You should see my RSS reader. It’s frightening. You should see the groups I’m in on facebook, that I’ve not contributed to. That’s even more frightening.

I sat here this evening and looked at all this stuff that piles up before I even get up the next morning, and it dawns on me that the reason Social Media is so overwhelming a concept to me is that I have too much of it. WAY more than the RDA.

Tomorrow, I’ll be cutting out all the stuff I can’t (or don’t use), and get this down to a manageable level.

It also brings me to the next topic for Cara Mandart for the next Black Dog Social Media Podcast “Overeating from the Social Media Buffet”. Or, “How not to do what I did”.
